The association works to advance the film industry and to protect the interest of the people in the industry, including instigating legal proceedings against any infringement of copyright on behalf of members. Other services include representing the industry in dealing with the HKSAR Government, authorities in other countries and other film associations, providing copyright information of Hong Kong films and compiling the daily Hong Kong box office report. The association has been appointed by the National Copyright Administration of China as the sole copyright authentication body for Hong Kong film copyright. The Certificate of Royalty issued by the association is recognised by many countries.
